BPA restored the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent Houses at Lay Dam Village, preserving two of the last historic residences at Alabama Power’s oldest operational hydroelectric facility. Built in 1916 to house plant operators, these homes served superintendents for nearly a century and stand as a testament to the evolution of Lay Dam.
The renovation carefully preserved key architectural elements while integrating modern functionality. In celebration of Alabama Power’s Centennial, the revitalized homes now serve as overnight accommodations, meeting spaces, and historical exhibit areas. This transformation ensures that these storied residences remain meaningful in Lay Dam Village for generations.
