Last week, state and local leaders gathered to celebrate the grand opening of the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences Regional Laboratory and Medical Facility in Huntsville! This 25,000-square-foot facility on the University of Alabama in Huntsville campus will support and be a critical hub for forensic investigations across 22 North Alabama counties.
Designed with the latest mechanical and electrical systems, the facility houses specialized forensic services, including Death Investigation, Drug Chemistry, and Forensic Biology. Key features include a welcoming, daylit lobby, secure evidence-handling areas, and collaborative workspaces with maximized daylight and views. Staff well-being was a priority, with dedicated respite spaces and an outdoor amphitheater-style classroom for training.
